In the Babylonian Talmud, Satan is a surprisingly sympathetic figure. He visits with the Rabbis, teaches important lessons, and displays an empathy that the human characters sometimes lack. We will study some of the narratives in which Satan appears and reflect on why the Rabbis choose to portray Satan in this manner.
