The Lavon Affair was a disastrous Israeli covert operation whose failure became a huge scandal in the 1950s. Known in Israel as “the Bad Business”, it resulted in the collapse of the government in 1955 and the long-term decline of the ruling Mapai Party. More importantly, it had profound consequences for power relationships in the Middle East.
