The Gaon of Vilna treats the book of Jonah as an exploration of how the soul journeys through life. It is for this reason that it is read on Yom Kippur, emphasising the moral review required on this holy day. The presentation is text based, and it is advisable but not essential to have some familiarity with the Hebrew text.
