South Africa's transition to democracy in 1994 occasioned much earnest, agonised and sometimes acrimonious soul-searching within SA Jewry concerning the community's response - or lack of it - to the moral challenges posed by apartheid. 25 years after the transition, historian and Jewish communal professional David Saks re-examines the issues.
