South Africa's transition to democracy in 1994 occasioned much earnest, agonised and sometimes acrimonious soul-searching within SA Jewry concerning the community's response - or lack of it - to the moral challenges posed by apartheid. 25 years after the transition, historian and Jewish communal professional David Saks re-examines the issues.
David is Associate Director of the SAJBD and editor of its journal, Jewish Affairs. He holds an MA in History from Rhodes University and has published extensively on aspects of South African Jewish, political and military history.
